Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne and members of the Vernon Town Council urge all Eversource customers who oppose the utility’s 13 percent residential rate increase request to join them in making their views known to the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.
They mayor and council members have signed a petition opposing the rate increase and welcome all Eversource customers to add their signatures to the petition by visiting the Vernon webpage:
https://www.vernon-ct.gov/forms/petition-against-eversource-2026-rate-increase
All are welcome to sign the petition, regardless of town of residence. The petition will be forwarded to PURA. The petition will be shut down Oct. 31. So far, about 4,800 people have signed the petition.
Eversource filed for a rate increase in July that if approved would increase residential electric rates 13 percent beginning in July 2027.
“Not everyone has the time to attend PURA hearings or to make their views known to the agency,” Vernon Mayor Dan Champaign said. “We are trying to make it as easy as possible for Eversource ratepayers to voice their opposition to the rate increase to PURA. At a time of ever-increasing energy costs, we all need a break and urge PURA to limit any increase.”
