Mayor Dan Champagne and the Vernon Town Council will join with town residents and business people to celebrate and formally unveil the new “Threads of Community” mural installed at Cornerstone, 1 Prospect St. at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. The celebration will be at the mural, which faces East Main Street.
Artist Heather Herindeen will be on hand to talk about her work and the planning and labor that went into creating the vivid and colorful welcome to Rockville.
The mural was funded through a crowdsourcing campaign and a grant from the Connecticut Main Street Center. The project’s goal was to create a visual gateway to downtown Rockville and the Vernon Cultural District, and to celebrate Rockville’s history while also signaling a renewed era as revitalization efforts continue.
Herindeen created the mural to reflect Rockville’s natural beauty, its historic mill and manufacturing legacy, and the optimism demonstrated in efforts to revitalize Rockville and make it a center of arts and community activity.
All are welcome.
