Absentee ballot applications for the Nov. 3, 2026 election are now available from the Vernon Town Clerk or online from the Secretary of the State’s office.
The town clerk and the secretary of the state are the only sources of absentee ballot applications. Only the town clerk issues absentee ballots. Ballots will be available from the town clerk on Oct. 5.
The Vernon Registrars of Voters DO NOT handle absentee ballot applications nor do they issue absentee ballots.
State law now provides for “no-excuse absentee ballots” and allow any registered voter to cast a ballot in a primary or general election by absentee ballot. Previously, to obtain an absentee ballot voters had to have one of several excuses, such as a physical disability, absence from the state on the day of the election or service in the armed forces.
If you are not able to vote on election day, you can also vote early. Early voting is available 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 28, 30, 31 and Nov. 1, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 27 and 29. All early voting is at the Registrar of Voters, 375 Hartford Turnpike. (Voting on election day is at regular voting locations.)
If you still need an absentee ballot, call the Town Clerk at 860-870-3662 and request that an absentee ballot application be mailed to you. You can also visit the Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall, 14 Park Place, first floor, Monday through Thursday. Town Clerk hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Absentee ballot applications are available online from the Secretary of the State’s website by clicking here.
