A major snow storm is forecast to hit Connecticut Sunday into Tuesday.
In Vernon:
Schools are closed Monday.
Monday's refuse collection has been canceled. Monday's routes will be collected Tuesday.
A parking ban is in force from 6 p.m. Sunday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Vernon public works, fire, EMS and police are prepared.
Please stay off the roads if you do not need to venture out.
Please give snow plows lots of room. Remember, don't crowd the plow.
There will be periods of high wind which may cause electrical outages. Stay away from downed power lines.
Please dig out your fire hydrants. Leave three feet on each side. If there is a fire in your neighborhood, don't delay the response several minutes as firefighters did the hydrant out. Safety is EVERYONE's responsibility.
Sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice within eight hours of the end of the storm. Many of our residents walk places so please give them a safe way to get where they are going.
Look out for your neighbors and friends, paying special attention to older folks.
We'll get through this. Enjoy your French toast.
