Big snowblower filling dump truck with snow

The storm that dumped more than a foot on the state a week ago continues to keep Vernon Public Works crews busy.

Crews working with payloaders and dump trucks worked in neighborhoods clearing snow from cul-de-sacs and improving sightlines.

In Rockville, crews used the town's 5-ton "Snow-Go,' a big snow thrower mounted to the front of a payloader, to remove snowbanks and widen roads and improve sight lines. It took just seconds for the machine to fill a dump truck with snow.

You can help the crews by not parking on the street and taking your refuse and recycling bins in.

In the meantime, representatives from the fire marshal's office have been digging out fire hydrants. If you have a hydrant near your home, digging it out now can save precious minutes if there is a fire call at your home or in your neighborhood.
