Leaf Collection

Leaf collection crews have made good progress the first two weeks of leaf collection and collection has been completed in the group A streets. All crews are now working in the group B streets and will be out working on Saturday.

Town roads are broken into three groups, A, B and C. The collection crews start in section A then move on to B and then C. You can find out what section your street is in by clicking here.

Remember, every home in town is guaranteed one pass by the collection crews. If the weather holds out, they will make a second pass. A second pass IS NOT guaranteed.

We understand that many leaves have not fallen. The oak trees are especially stubborn. But a lot of have fallen and our crews are doing their best to gather them all up for disposal. (Remember, we have no control over when leaves fall.)

Public Works Department crews are placing signs in neighborhoods to give residents notice that leaf collection crews will arrive soon.

Please follow the rules outlined above. DO NOT rake or blow leaves onto sidewalks and roadways.

PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY and RESPONSIBLY near our collection crews. They are working hard for you and we want them to go home at the end of the day. Too many people drive way too fast when our workers are in the roadway.

During leaf collection, weekly bulky waste collection is suspended.

You have two more options for leaf disposal.

Take your leaves to a collection to a collection area.

You can also dispose of leaves by bagging them and taking them to one of three leaf collection areas.

  • The Nye Street firehouse (off West Street)

  • The Church Street lot near the rail trail parking lot.

  • Legion Field off Regan Road at the rear of the parking lot.

Leaf collection areas are for leaves only. Dumping grass clippings, branches, garden waste or brush is not permitted. Leaf bins will be closed if inappropriate items are dumped. Leaves in biodegradable leaf bags can be left as is. If you bring leaves in plastic bags, the leaves must be dumped from the bags.

Bagged leaf collection the first two Fridays in December

Collection of bagged leaves takes place on the first two Fridays of December, but may be impacted by weather. You must call the Department of Public Works at 860-870-3500 to schedule pickup. Only leaves bagged in paper bags will be collected.

Please note that bagged leaves will not be collected with regular household refuse.
