Mayor Dan Champagne, members of the Town Council, Parks and Recreation Director Marty Sitler and Assistant Director Amy Watt joined with some with Vernon families to formally celebrate the opening of the new playground at Dart Hill Park.
Families have already taken to the new swings, playscapes for tots and older children and other equipment.
The Town Council allocated $150,000 in the town budget for the project to replace outdated equipment at what is one of Vernon’s more heavily-used playgrounds.
“Seeing so many kids and families enjoying the swings and playscape is a real treat,” Mayor Champagne said. “We have focused on upgrading our playgrounds so families can have safe place to play.”
Dart Hill Park also features a fitness trail and a walking trail, which was resurfaced last year. The Hockanum River Linear Trail goes through the park.
