VERNON, Connecticut – Effective Jan. 6, 2025, Vernon Town Hall hours will be adjusted and the late night will shift to Tuesday from Thursday.
Vernon has long offered late hours one day a week giving residents the opportunity to visit town hall to transact business, such as renew a dog license, obtain a birth certificate or pay taxes. For many years the late night was Thursday.
“Staying open late one night a week is an important service for our residents, many of whom cannot make it to town hall during the day because they are working,” Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne. “Moving the late day to Tuesday will enable us to continue this important service while creating a work schedule that will help us recruit and retain employees.”
There will be no reduction in the number of hours town hall is open or that employees work.
Town hall hours will now be:
• Monday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Friday, closed.
“After hearing the comments of our residents and employees, we believe this new schedule will enable us to provide the same level of service our residents expect while taking into consideration our employees’ work-life balance,” Town Administrator John Kleinhans said.
This schedule change does not impact the probate court, public works and public safety departments.
