Emergency and Risk Management

The Town of Vernon, Office of Emergency Management's mission is to plan, prepare for and mitigate the effects of natural, man made, or national security emergencies/disasters; educate the public on preparedness; coordinate and support responses to and recovery from emergencies/disasters; collect and disseminate critical information; and seek and obtain funding and other aid in support of the overall preparedness of the Town of Vernon.

The Town has an Emergency Operations Plan, which covers the coordination and use of resources during any type of natural or man-made disaster. For additional information call 860-993-5878.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers assist local authorities when responding to disasters and other incidents. CERT members undergo training to learn how to assist local first responders with tasks that include, but are not limited to, checking in on neighbors, distributing information to the public, supporting emergency operation centers, and helping to manage traffic and crowds. CERT volunteers also learn about fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, terrorism awareness, first aid, triage, sheltering and commodity distribution.
