Bulky Waste
The Public Works Department offers a program where residents can call to schedule a bulky item or metal pick up for a fee. Residents should call the Public Works Department at 860-870-3500 between 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule a pick up. Residents are required to provide Public Works with a list of items for pick up. Residential household bulky item pick ups are performed on Wednesdays. Payment must be received by the end of the day on Monday for pick up the following Wednesday.
PLEASE NOTE: Pick up slots are limited and scheduled on a first come first serve basis Pick ups may be postponed due to weather, holidays, leaf season etc.
Pick up Options and Fee Structure
Payment via cash or check must be received by the end of the day on the Monday before the scheduled pick up. Unpaid pick ups will be removed from the schedule. There are several pick up options available:
Standard pick up - $45 fee for an area of space, measuring 7 feet wide by 7 feet long. Items can be stacked up to 4 feet high
Double pick up – $90 fee for an area of space, measuring 7 feet wide by 14 feet long. Items can be stacked up to 4 feet high
Freon – $20 per item in addition to the standard/double pick up fee
Single item pick up - $20 unless the single item is a freon item or a sectional couch in which case the price increases to the standard pick up fee of $45.
Resident Household Bulky Item Pick Up
Mattresses and box springs: must be placed in a plastic mattress bag for pickup – mattresses and box springs not wrapped in plastic will not be picked up - no exceptions.
Metal items: Grills, fence posts, bikes, swing sets, cabinets, lawnmowers, desks, scrap metal. Fence posts and swing sets must be concrete-free. Lawnmowers or snow blowers must be drained of oil and gas.
Appliances: Stoves, washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers, fans.
Oversized bulky items: Furniture, building materials, fencing - must be cut into manageable size and bundled.
Tires: Mounted or unmounted, maximum of 6.
Electronic equipment.
Freon Units
Refrigerators, freezers and wine chillers (must have doors removed), dehumidifiers, air conditioners. An additional fee of $20 per item will be charges for freon units - no exceptions.
Items put out for pick up must have metal items separated from burnable items.

UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS:
NO household garbage, cardboard or recyclables
NO car or truck parts
NO rocks, asphalt, sand or dirt
NO shingles
NO hazardous waste - paints, thinners, cleaning fluids, etc.
NO yard waste – grass, leaves, large tree limbs, logs or stumps
