Town of Vernon Fire Department
Emergency Medical Services Division
The Town of Vernon is proud to offer its residents emergency medical services at a moment’s notice, provided by paid emergency medical technician (EMT) staff, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Vernon EMS has up to three on-duty ambulances covering emergency calls in both Vernon and surrounding communities. Our staff responds with state-of-the-art equipment, including LUCAS mechanical CPR devices, basic life support (BLS) advanced airway management units, and advanced bleeding control and trauma supplies. Besides responding to 911 calls, our crews also actively participate in community outreach services, including CPR training, demonstrations for local schools including the Fire Tech Class offered by Rockville High School, sports standbys for quick responses to potential emergencies, and presence at various community events.
We receive primary advanced life support (ALS) intercept services from the Rockville Paramedic, provided by American Medical Response. This paramedic is stationed at the Vernon Public Safety Building, located at 280 West Street, which is where our two primary ambulances are also located. The Rockville Paramedic responds with our ambulances, as well as ambulances in surrounding towns, for calls that may require advanced medical treatment to supplement the basic life support care that our highly-trained EMTs provide.
Job Opportunities
When duty calls, we are there to respond. Vernon EMS is a 911-only municipal BLS service that runs approximately 5,300 calls per year. We are currently seeking experienced EMTs who would like to join our team. We have part time openings available, with opportunities in the future to become full time. Our part time schedule is flexible, with the option to build a permanent part-time schedule. If you have questions, please contact the Chief Medical Officer.
