Solar Power

Center Road School solar panels

Solar panels installed by Earthlight at Vernon Center Middle School and the Vernon Police Department.

The Town of Vernon, through its sustainable community initiatives and as a cost saving measure, installed solar panels at the Vernon Police Department and neighboring Center Road School, Northeast School and Lake Street School. Earthlight Technologies of Ellington performed the work.

  • At Northeast School, 69 East St., a 134.7 kilowatt system has generated 140,261 kilowatt hours of electricity.
  • At Center Road School, 20 Center Road, the 331 kilowatt system has generated 372,051 kilowatt hours of electricity.
  • At Lake Street School, 205 Lake St., the 146.9 kilowatt system has generated 170,925 kilowatt hours of electricity.
  • (Figures as of Jan. 1, 2025)

The Town of Vernon also purchases solar energy from offsite installations. In 2024, Vernon procured 5,337,205 kWh of solar energy to offset nonrenewable sources in 11 town-owned buildings. That resulted in 27 percent of municipal energy being offset by renewable energy.
