By Jason Rowe , Staff Writer

VERNON -- Voters at referendum Tuesday approved three of four school bond proposals, authorizing spending of more than $68 million of the nearly $71 million sought by town officials.

Renovations to Rockville High School costing $34.7 million were approved by a vote of 2,031-1,440.

Renovations to Vernon Center Middle School costing $11.5 million were approved 2,041-1,428.

Renovations to five elementary schools costing $22 million were approved 2,042-1,426. But $2.38 million in renovations at Talcottville School were defeated, with 1,681 in favor and 1,787 opposed.

The first three proposals won about 59 percent support from the 3,477 voters, who in turn constituted about 21 percent of the electorate.
