A law enforcement Explorer Post is a cadet program designed for students who are interested in any aspect of law enforcement, and allows individuals to learn about law enforcement careers. Exploring is chartered by the Boy Scouts of America.

Detective Division
The Detective Division is commanded by a Lieutenant (position is currently vacant) and is responsible for the investigation of all serious crimes that occur within the Town of Vernon. In addition to the Lieutenant, the Division is staffed by a Sergeant and 5 full-time detectives who support the Patrol Division and Administration in the investigation of criminal incidents within the Town of Vernon and crimes that span outside the Department's jurisdiction.
Detectives routinely process crime scenes for fingerprint and blood evidence, take photographs, prepare diagrams and interact with other local, state, federal and international law enforcement agencies including the CT Division of Criminal Justice, CT State Police and Forensic Lab, CT Department of Corrections, NESPIN, FBI, DEA, U.S. Postal Inspectors and INTERPOL.
